Near the edge of the Red Light district a young girl wearing a black trench coat stood nervously. It was very late and she didn't know the city very well, even after her months of living there. Her bright red hair stood out vividly against the dark night which made her even more nervous. She didn't want to be targeted in an area like this.
"Why did I have to come here?" she sighed.
She had been standing at the very edge of the Red Light District for almost 10 minutes now. The only reason she had even come this far was because of an advertisement, an establishment looking for a singer. The club was called Nightshade, but that's all she knew about it.
Finally the girl took a deep breath and walked steadily into the district. The smell of alcohol was heavy here, and as she passed the doors of the establishments she could hear the brouhaha within. She pulled the coat tighter around herself. She really did not want to be here, but if it meant work she would bear this.

He could smell the alcohol long before he even reached the district. He's been here countless times, and those he passed by on the filth ridden street gave him a nod of recognition and nothing more. He's had his share of women from here, who really hasn't if they've got the money to do so? It's been a while since he's been to the District, and he's got an urge even his exiled female Drow partner couldn't quench.
He noticed a young woman, who had a trench coat on and looked nervous. He wasn't sure why she would be so nervous since those that worked in the District usually kept quiet about those that seek their services. He started towards her, his ice blue eyes glowing in the infrared spectrum.

Pausing for a moment the girl shivered. But it was not from the cold, she could feel someone's eyes on her. Smoothing out her bright coral red she picked up her pace. This was not a place she wanted to be stopped on. The girl felt herself become more and more apprehensive as she steadily walked along the street, looking for the sign to the club.
Ok Syn, don't panic, she told herself. You've got your daggers and you're strong and fast.. It'll be alright.
Searching the street with her amber eyes she began to slow once more. She looked at the numbers on the doors and bit her lower lip. Then she reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a small slip of paper. Cursing loudly she shoved the paper back into her pocket.
Good going! You went and passed the damn place! she yelled at herself in her head.
With shaking legs she turned to start back down the street. But then she saw a pair of ice blue eyes, shining in the darkness. They stopped her dead in her tracks and she stood there in an almost stunned state.

He followed the girl, wondering where she was bound. At the sound of her loud cursing, he wouldn't be surprised if others would find her. He chewed on his lip, thinking of why she would be in the District. Surely not for pleasure judging by how nervous she was. He saw that she had turned then froze where she stood.
"Are you lost?" He asked.

She cast her amber eyes to the pavement, clutching her coat closed with one hand and the other resting at her side, ready to reach for a dagger. She tried to make her breath even but her voice came out quiet and almost breathy. "I'm looking for the club called Nightshade, I seem to have passed it."
The girl dared a to look upwards from behind her coral red bangs into the eyes of the stranger. She involuntarily shuddered. It wasn't that the man looked like he was going to harm her, it was just she didn't know what his intentions were. She eyed him carefully for any sudden movements.

"I know where it is. The owner and I are on good standings. Come." He held out an arm for her. "I'll take you." He wasn't sure if the girl was normally this nervous and shy, or if it was just being in the area, but for some odd reason, he found it a bit amusing that she would enter the District, probably knowing full well what it was.

She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should trust this man. On the one hand he could kidnap her, on the other hand he was offering her help. So with shaking legs she walked forward and took the mans arm.
"Thank you," she said with her head bowed. Her other hand was resting where her other dagger was on her hip in case he did anything. "This is my first time coming down here so I do not know the area very well."

"I don't bite, I promise," he said when she accepted his arm. He began heading in the direction of Nightshade. "I'm Mauro." He returned a return nod to a man.

"Syntyche," she replied walking along with him. "So Mauro, I'm guessing you visit this area often if you're friends with the owner of Nightshade... is he good to his employees?"

"He is," Mauro answered with a nod. "He gives all his female employees escorts. Mostly for safety sake. It's a wonder he didn't send one for you. And I come here often enough. Though not for what you think."

"Ah well I'm not his employee yet," Syntyche said pulling at her bangs. "I'm coming down to audition for a job. I found a flier advertising they needed a singer... But I won't ask you what you're here for."

"I guess I'll have to talk to him about that, now won't I?" Mauro smiled. "And no, I'm not here for pleasure. You look too new to know, but I'm the Underground Race King." Nearly anything one would see in the Underground, Mauro probably had his hand in one way or another. "I've been building somewhat of an empire of Underground Racing."

"Oh, thank you," Syntyche said, her eyes widening fractionally. She had not expected a complete stranger to help her in such a capacity. "Underground racing?" she mused aloud. Then she turned to look him in the eyes and giving him a brilliant smile, laughing lightheartedly as she said. "Well its an honor to be escorted by a king hehehe."

Mauro couldn't help but smile and laugh at that. "It's no big deal, Syntyche. Besides, I had nothing planned for tonight, and had found myself wandering the streets. Ah, here we are." Mauro came up the entrance to the Nightshade. "I can come in and wait for you and escort you home."

"That's very kind of you Mauro," smiled Syntyche as they walked into Nightshade. "I'm in your dept."
As they walked further into the night club a tall man with long blond hair approached them. He was quite handsome with pale skin and light gray eyes.
"Good evening Mauro. Here on business?" he said in a smooth voice. Then he saw Syntyche and his gray eyes widened. "My what a pretty young thing," he leaned down to look her in her bright amber coloured eyes. "Such an innocent face," as he said this he reached out and took her face in his hands, tilting it up with one hand and pinching her cheek with the other. "Now Mauro I hope you're not 'rocking the cradle'... though I could understand with this one."
The whole time the blond man had been 'fussing' over her she had been stammering and her cheeks burned with embarrassment. Under normal circumstances she would have transformed into a wolf and bitten his hand off, but she didn't want to maim a potential employer.
